Man caught on camera breaking into west Omaha home

OMAHA,Neb(FOX42KPTM)-A homeowner caught a man breaking into his home on Easter morning.

Surveillance footage shows the bad guy walk in and notice the cameras above the door. He immediately ran off.

"Whoever this is was caught on camera," Randy Smith said. "We have an image and a face."

Smith says the man somehow got inside his front door. He didn't even use any tools to do it.

"Kind of concerning to see someone actually in the house."

Smith wasn't home at the time, but the alerts on his phone told him something was going on.

"It's always concerning when you're not there."

The cameras also caught the guy prowling through the backyard, too.

"I was pretty shocked to be honest because we've seen the guy walk through the yard a couple of times."

He says those cameras worked wonders.

"There are bushes around the front door, so if no one was actively watching, he could have been out there all night having a party."

Smith says you can't stop crime from happening, but you can report it everytime it does.

"Keep your eyes open. Nothing's safe really anymore, cameras are well worth it, I'll say it again, keep your eyes open."

Smith has turned the surveillance footage over to the police, and it is an active case.

If you have any information on this case, you're asked to call CrimeStoppers at 402-444-STOP.
