OMAHA, Neb. (FOX42KPTM) - There's a new twist in an effort by the Nebraskans for Medical Marijuana campaign to get the issue onto the November ballot.

The United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit has granted a stay to the State of Nebraska in a case that involves signature requirements.

In an initial ruling from a lower court, Nebraskans for Medical Marijuana wasn't mandated to meet a threshold of at least five percent of registered voters in at least 38 of the state's 93 counties.

The ACLU and Nebraskans for Medical Marijuana had argued the requirement violated a one person, one vote principle.

Now, the new ruling, means the five percent threshold in multiple counties can stand while litigation continues.

Signatures are still being collected as of this moment to get the medical marijuana issue onto the November ballot. There is a deadline of tomorrow, July 7th, for the group to get the necessary signatures in order.

The group will be out till midnight collecting signature at 12040 Mcdermott Plz #100, La Vista, NE 68128.
