Open Door Mission holds Salute to the Red, White and Blue
OMAHA, Neb. —
More than 300,000 American veterans are homeless in the u-s.
Now one open door mission is giving back to those veterans.
The Garland Thompson Open Door Mission hosts its ninth annual Salute to The Red, White and Blue event.
This event honors homeless vets across the country and right here in Omaha.
Organizers say it's the least they could do.
"For us here at the Open Door Mission, it's kind of a kickoff to the holiday season, when we really honor our Veterans it goes right into Thanksgiving, Christmas, and the New Year," said Candace Gregory, president and CEO of the Open Door Mission.
The Garland Thompson Open Door Mission and the Lydia House have more than 800 beds for men, women, and children.
