Police say bar owner Jake Gardner fatally shot 22-year-old James Scurlock Saturday night during a protest in downtown Omaha.

Our family would like to extend our deepest sympathy to the James Scurlock family and friends.
We have no idea the pain and suffering you must be experiencing, especially losing a child to unnecessary violence.
Although we are only the landlords, we feel it important to apologize for this horrible incident that happened near our building.

Scurlock was shot in front of the Gatsby and Hive.
Vance terminated Gardner's lease Monday.
