Speed limit changes hitting Omaha highways
Numerous highways in the Omaha area will be increasing the speed Thursday July 19th.
The Department of Transportation rolled out the speed increase in hopes of lowering the number of crashes on the interstate system.
Sarpy County Chief Deputy Greg London said he thinks it is a good idea.
He said the increase will free up traffic congestion which he believes will lead to less crashes.
A number of others around the city also agreed with the increase.
Many of them said the speed limit is too slow right now which also could contribute to road rage.
The increase won't go into effect until every speed limit sign is changed.
According to NDOT there are 50 signs.
