State trooper is warning holiday travelers to drive with caution this weekend

If you're a Nebraska fan, perhaps you'd recognize his voice.

"If you listen to the husker traffic report on the way to Lincoln, I'm that guy," said Trooper David Nelson who is on radio 590 here in Osmaha.

He knows what to expect this holiday weekend and says you've got to be careful.

"Traffic obviously has picked up even though it's Wednesday at 3:00pm in the afternoon, but it'll be like this all night."

AAA says 48.5 million people will hit the road for Thanksgiving.

It's why you need to know your resources.

5-1-1 is a place to start.

When you call, you'll get the latest information on the roads, any crashes, snow or ice covered roadways, and even construction closures.

You can check it out online too: 511. Nebraska.gov

There you can select a roadway, look at cameras, check the weather. and in real time even check how fast the cars are going.

There's also an app call "Nebraska 511."

It has the same features as the website.

If you are one the road this weekend, trooper Nelson says there's something else you need to keep in mind.

"It's a bad weekend for drinking and driving," he said.

He says consider taking an Uber or Lift if you're drinking.

The FOX42 Weather Center is also calling for snow this weekend. Trooper Nelson says to get off the roads before it gets bad.
