Woman accused of hitting, killing pedestrian on sidewalk held on bond

OMAHA, Neb (FOX 42 KPTM)-- The woman accused of crashing into and killing a man on May 25 was ordered held on bond Wednesday.

Nickole Wheeler,33, had bond set at $250,000.

On Friday, police say Wheeler ran a white SUV off the road at 24th and Leavenworth. Police say she drove up on the sidewalk and ran into a man and a pole. The man died at the hospital.

Wheeler is charged with failing to stop and help in a crash that resulted in a death. Prosecutors also charged her with theft by deception over $5,000.

Court documents show Wheeler was trying to steal the white SUV by deception.

Those documents also show Wheeler told investigators she crashed when her flip flop got stuck underneath the pedals.

They say she told investigators she walked away from the crash because she was scared and wasn't thinking.
