NEW BERN, N.C. (WCTI) -- The City of New Bern, N.C. reported around 150 people who were in need of rescue Thursday night and Friday morning due to Hurricane Florence.

The eye of the storm was very near the coast at around 4 a.m. Friday. However, the storm has been so strong, massive flooding has led to situations where people need to be rescued who stayed behind and didn't heed the mandatory evacuation notices.

A number of people reported needing assistance in New Bern. There were also calls for help in surrounding parts of the state.

CrowdSource Rescue is a website that was used extensively to assist in rescues last year during Hurricane Harvey in the Houston area. The website said more than 35,000 people have used the map and received assistance.
